Calling all beer and balti lovers. We have just the tour for you! The Balti triangle in Birmingham is the celebrated centre and birthplace of the balti. Created in the 1970s by Pakistani restaurateurs, the dish was a phenomenon throughout the UK and has become synonymous, and sometimes confused, with curry in general. On this tour you will discover the truth about the unique preparation, history and taste of the true balti. We also visit the famous Two Towers brewery for a tour and tasting. You can’t beat a beer and a balti!

Suggested itinerary

Day 1

Travel to your hotel

On this foodie tour we recommend you visit one of the local restaurants for dinner. There are independent and chain restaurants within walking distance from the hotel.

Day 2 - Morning

Free time in Birmingham

Today we spend a leisurely morning in the UK’s second largest city. You may wish to explore the city’s art galleries and museums, or head to the Library of Birmingham where you can admire the award-winning architecture, sit outside and have a coffee in the café, or take some photos from the roof top terrace garden.

Day 2 - Afternoon

Two Towers Brewery Tour

We head to Grade II listed historic pub The Gun Makers Arms, home of Two Tours Brewery. Here we embark upon a fun and informative tour based around the history of the brewery and local area, learn of the brewing process and get the chance to sample some of the iconic labels produced by Two Towers.

Day 2 - Evening

Balti Masterclass

Now we turn up the heat and hot-foot over to a restaurant located in the famous Balti Triangle for our balti masterclass! Arrive at the Balti Triangle restaurant for an illustrated talk ‘WHAT A CURRY ON’, the history of balti and famous Balti Triangle, followed by a cookery demonstration, three course meal and fun curry quiz (with prizes!). Return to your city centre hotel.

Day 3

Return home

Before returning home why not take the optional extra of a Coffin Works tour followed by some pub grub. The Coffin Works isn’t quite what you’d might expect, and we promise the surprises will be pleasant ones! Entering the factory is like stepping back to the 1960s. With the original machinery working again, you can experience how Newman Brothers once operated on a day-to-day basis, producing some of the world’s finest coffin furniture, including the fittings for the funerals of Churchill, Chamberlain and the Queen Mother. Enjoy a tour of this award winning attraction, followed by a slap up traditional pub lunch at The Shakespeare on Summer Row!
